Celebrating Inclusion & Diversity, February 2021

When we celebrate significant people from history in each of our countries, we recognize their contributions and we are inspired to further their vision to shape a better world. In the United States, we commemorated Martin Luther King, Jr. Day in January. In February, together with several other countries, we celebrate Black History Month. We must take these opportunities to learn from our past and continue to strive for racial equality in the workplace, in our communities and for the people we are privileged to serve.

It is a fitting moment to reaffirm our commitment to Inclusion and Diversity (I&D) at UnitedHealthcare Global and across UnitedHealth Group. We have committed to actionable and measurable steps to build an inclusive culture and diverse workforce. Our UnitedHealthcare Global I&D Council’s three areas of focus are to mitigate unconscious bias, implement and reinforce inclusive workspace practices and increase diverse leadership. You can learn more about our council and priorities in this one-page overview, and you will hear more from your business leaders about local I&D initiatives. Our commitment to improving the employee experience and, specifically, to advancing our I&D initiatives, has never been stronger. This is evidenced by including clear objectives related to this work in our “people leader” goals.

I am so proud that our I&D Council represents each of you across our markets and businesses:

  • The UnitedHealthcare Global I&D Council business leaders are: Edvaldo Vieira (Brazil), Nicolas Cabello (Chile), Jorge Pelaez (Colombia), David Velasquez (Colombia), Patricia Eirinha (Portugal), Daniel Preto (Corporate, U.S.), and Diane Thomas (Global Solutions). These business leaders each lead local I&D Councils that involve many employees to advance I&D initiatives at a local level.
  • In addition, our Global I&D Council includes: Esabela Cruz (Brazil), Margaret-Mary Wilson (Corporate), Steve Cragle (Corporate), Madhu Palkar (Corporate), Rachael Moeglein (Corporate), Ricardo Hruschka-Bonds (Human Capital), and Maria Rosengren (Communications).

Thank you to everyone involved in the global and local I&D councils for your service. I pledge my unwavering support to you and the important work you are doing. Embracing our diversity and cultural differences is critical to our success as a global business. By creating a more inclusive environment and engaging, listening and learning from each other, we will become stronger together.

I invite you to join me on this I&D journey. Please email our I&D Council if you have any suggestions or feedback. We look forward to hearing from you.

Thank you,

Amy Shaw Signature
